What Is It? Hardcore punk bursting out of the unlikely Omaha, Nebraska with a new EP, Biblical, scheduled for release on January 26th through Quality Control HQ. They've got a unique style for a band playing what is largely a by the numbers genre. Vocals and gurgled and barfed by Nathan Ma in a way that is going to get your attention. Two tracks from the forthcoming release are available now a video directed, filmed, and edited by Emma Penrose and Zack Shorrosh.

KAZAK
What is it? Call it stoner, call it doom, whichever you choose add some psych atmospherics and you might be close to imagining this Italian duo's sound. If you're familiar with the patient and rhythmic styles of King Buffalo, OM, and Ufomammut, you'll happily nod into their latest offering. As part of the Turned To Stone split series on Ripple Music, they just dropped four new tracks alongside Ritual Earth for the ninth installment of the ongoing campaign.

What is it? Crossover skate punk from York, PA drawing easy comparisons to classic act D.R.I. or local legends Common Enemy. They've got an insatiable appetite for playing live and kicking up dust all throughout South Central Pennsylvania. In the tail end of 2023, they released their debut LP Life Sucks, Go Skate and are hellbent on spreading their hardcore punk gospel in 2024.

OBSIDIAN TONGUE
What is it? An epic atmospheric black metal duo out of Portland, Maine featuring members of Shabti, Falls Of Rauros, Obsequai, and Panopticon. They will soon release a new EP titled The Stone Heart which is the first in a trilogy of recordings completed between 2020 and 2022. Out now is a music video for the title track via a music video from Chariot Of Black Moth, which showcases their cinematic approach to melodic black metal.

PLACE OF REFUGE
What is it? The Vancouver-based metalcore act is comprised of members from A Mourning Star, Seasons Worn, Thank You Driver, and Second Nature. Their sound is very much reminiscent of the early 2000's genre heyday. There is a lot of melody alongside massive breakdowns. The first comparison that comes to mind is Hopesfall circa No Wings To Speak Of and The Satellite Years. With a new promo out now on Rest Assured Records, the band is poised to breakout in 2024.

SINISTRUM
What is it? Former and current members of Abominant, Effigy, Sarcoma, Fornicus, and Blood Curse, dishing thrash friendly death metal out of Kentucky. Still buzzing from the release of their Trichotomy of Death demo EP in 2022, the band will deliver their debut LP Infernal Dawn on February 2nd through Morbid And Miserable Records and Adirondack Black Mass.

STYGIAN CROWN
What is it? This epic doom metal crew from Los Angeles will drop their forthcoming LP Funeral For A King on February 23rd via Cruz Del Sur Music. They've got a touch of death metal to their sound and bring to mind a variety of classic heavy metal icons like Candlemass, My Dying Bride, Bolt Thrower, and even Iron Maiden.

What is it? DIY crust punk out of Minneapolis formed in 2018. With over fifteen years experience as a band and eleven releases under their belt, the dedicated quartet truly believe the ethos of punk is protest. 2022's Manifest Ruination is the latest example of their potent and vicious thrash-influenced sound.
