Review: Ominous Scriptures - Rituals of Self-Ignition

In short, we can call the newest Ominous Scriptures release oodles of brutals. That's exactly what it is and it doesn't try to be more than that. Rituals of Self-Ignition is MASSIVE.

Formed by half of Relics of Humanity, another brutal death metal band you should check out, this Belarus quintet are back with their third full length album. While it's not reinventing the wheel, there's absolutely nothing wrong with making a very good wheel and that's exactly what we get on their newest release.

It's frantic, brutal, evil, heavy, ominous (obviously), guttural, and pummeling. The heavy down tuned riffs barely let up along with the equally crushing drum work. They are heavily rooted in the sound of early 2000's brutal death metal (a high point of the genre in my opinion). Think earlier Unique Leader Records sounds and you would be on the right path.

Going off song titles, it's not as blatantly satanic/anti-religion/apocalyptic as prior outings, but I'm willing to bet lyrically it still is as that's the general sense given here. If you're a fan of death metal of the brutal variety, I see no reason to not check this release out.
