Start Today from Los Angeles, CA
Once in a while a band emerges that reminds you what hardcore was all about in the first place–fast, passionate music played by kids for kids. The band onstage evoking the same amount of passion out of the crowd that they’re giving themselves; a cathartic give-and-take where the barrier between band and fan is completely shattered. Over the last two years, Start Today has been that band.
Since their demo dropped in the summer of 2024, Start Today has been on a quick ascent from local heroes to one of the most nationally recognized hardcore bands playing the modern flavor of youth crew hardcore. It’s no surprise that when Turnstile did a one-off, no-barrier show in Los Angeles in the spring of 2025 it was Start Today who got the call to be the only other band on the show.
But it’s not all vibes and internet hype. Start Today has earned their respect the old way–by putting out killer tunes and pounding the pavement, gigging hard. In support of their excellent 2025 self-titled 7” on Rebirth Records, they did a full-United States, DIY tour–a rarity for even some veteran hardcore bands these days.
This year, with the release of their debut LP, Nothing To You, will surely be their best year yet. The record harnesses the speed and intensity of early 2000s Los Angeles Hardcore (Carry On, Internal Affairs), original youth crew (Gorilla Biscuits, Youth of Today), and chops and screws it with the infectious stomp of the mid 2000s Lockin’ Out sound (Mental, Righteous Jams). The chord progressions are as fast as the snare beat, and the breakdowns are guaranteed to get every dance floor moving. And they’ll get the chance to. This April, they’re back on the road with some of hardcore’s most heavy hitters: Terror, Pain of Truth, and End It. When that wraps, they’re hitting the road again this summer on another headlining tour. 2026 is no doubt going to be the year of Start Today.
