Mortuous from San Jose, CA

MORTUOUS formed in 2009 from the ashes of Colin Tarvin’s previous project Funerealm in the hope of creating a new death metal band. He started writing music in the vein of Incantation, Autopsy, and Viogression with lyrics emphasizing heavily on philosophical views on death and anti-technological themes. Later that year he released the Demo, Mors Immortalis, on Skeleton Plague Records which received praise and recognition throughout the underground death metal community. By 2010, MORTUOUS had a full lineup which included Col Jones and Mike Beams, previously of Exhumed as well as Al Tarvin-Kibler, and Nick Scarboro. In 2013, MORTUOUS parted ways with Tarvin-Kibler and Scarboro and recruited Clint Roach on bass. By 2014, MORTUOUS saw the current lineup formation with the addition of Chad Gailey from Necrot on drums.

MORTUOUS released their critically lauded Through Wilderness debut in 2018 through a joint partnership between Carbonized Records and Tankcrimes Records in North America and Dawnbreed and Extremely Rotten Productions in Europe. The record boasted eight tracks of relentless doom and death with nods to My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost, Rottrevore, and Disembowelment. Later that year, the band unveiled a split 7″ with Oakland’s Scolex which made its debut at Kill-Town Death Fest VI: The Resurrection. In 2019, MORTUOUS released Lamenting Reflections, a split EP featuring now-defunct New Jersey death metalists Deformon limited edition vinyl. The EP was dedicated to former Deform guitarist/vocalist Tim Ninerell, who took his own life in 2016. The release was followed by performances at a variety of festivals including Eternal Warfare, California Deathfest, Kill-Town Death Fest VII, and Decibel Metal And Beer Fest: Los Angeles. In 2020, the band release their long out-of-print Among The Lost and Mors Immortalis demos on CD via a joint partnership between Carbonized Records in the United States and Triumvirate Of Evil in Colombia. That same year saw the band make their first ever appearance in Mexico at Total Death Over Mexico III in Mexico City. In December 2021, MORTUOUS recorded their upcoming new full-length Upon Desolation.
