Soul Exchange from Austin, TX
Austin, TX metallic hardcore band Soul Exchange confronts the brutal reality of addiction on their latest release, Slow Descent, a crushing and unflinching record that examines substance abuse from every angle. Vocalist Austin Greco wanted to tell the story beyond just the addict’s perspective, exploring how addiction spreads through families, friendships, and entire communities. Tracks like “Cash” and “Cold Hands” channel the cold detachment of street-level dealing through punishing drums, razor-sharp riffs, and a guest vocal appearance from Taylor Young, while “Familiar Poison” dives into the cycle of craving, shame, and self-destruction that keeps people trapped.
Elsewhere, songs like “In the Room but Not with Me” reflect on the helplessness of watching someone you love disappear in real time. Featuring Greco alongside guitarists Grant Gallo and Bryce Holloway, bassist Pete Varela, and drummer Colby Cameron, the band recorded Slow Descent with Kieran at Overcast Recordings and brought in Young at The Pit for mixing. Built through an intense and fast-moving writing process, the record captures both the emotional weight of its subject matter and the chemistry between five musicians whose shared passion has pushed Soul Exchange to new heights. Slow Descent arrives June 5, 2026 via 1126 Records, with summer touring and more new music already on the horizon.
