Damokles Premiere "Rip You Off And Rip It Out"

Norway's post-everything sweethearts DAMOKLES have revealed their new single "Rip You Off and Rip It Out" from their forthcoming album A Trophy Collection, to be released later this year via Sect Appeal Records.

The band comments on the track's theme: "Our antagonist, soon approaching middle-age, has been shed of his innocence. Those pubertal days spent yearning and longing, while learning the art of plotting, are long gone. He’s now a seasoned killer. A manipulative social chameleon. Addicted to the hunt. Scheming, playing his part while reading the room, all senses in high gear. Starting to get a feel for the bigger picture; his trail of misery becoming his life’s work. He’s the author, the director, the artist. Everyone else are pawns. Resources. Entertainment. Food for the void and its always open mouth. Pieces of the final puzzle."

Regarding the sound they add, "The track is part of our upcoming serial killer concept album 'A Trophy Collection. ' A lot of the songs on the record are downtempo and croony, very Nick Cave-inspired. We wanted to mix up the formula a bit with this one. Convey a few of our other tastes in the 80s/90s realms. I’m getting some post-hardcore vibes here, such as Quicksand, At The Drive-In and These Arms Are Snakes, but also indie-rock-leaning faves like The Afghan Whigs, Superchunk and Queens Of The Stone Age. A loving little sonic postcard to the teenage punkrock skateboarder versions of ourselves, to either be played on a crusty Sony Walkman or a blasted boombox."

RIP YOU OFF AND RIP IT OUT

First I’m gonna rip you off
Then I’m gonna rip you off
First I’m gonna rip it out
Then I’m gonna rip it out
Your heart
Your soul
Your love
Your hope
Your dreams
Your control

Then I’m gonna rip it out

True faithfulness lies in destruction
When you’re soaked in sinister white
The crown jewel
The blue in your skin
The spectral unfamiliar
Oh how it beckons
So want to pin you down
Tuck you into the ground
How much more can be given?
Than a realm of the dead
Built exclusively for:
The hearts and souls
Of the children of man
I’ll go for the eyes
The hearts and souls
Of the children of man
I’ll go for the eyes

First I’m gonna rip you off
Then I’m gonna rip you off
First I’m gonna rip it out
Then I’m gonna rip it out
Your heart
Your soul
Your love
Your hope
Your dreams
Your control

Then I’m gonna rip it out
First I’m gonna rip it out
Then I’m gonna rip it out
