(Not So) New Around Here

The premise of these articles is quite simple—a list of bands that have been added to the site recently. However, the artists below have been on the site for a few months and this list was constructed back then as well. You've likely already been introduced to a few of them through recent episodes of Getting It Out Podcast, but maybe not.

COMMON WOUNDS

What Is It? Phoenix-based post-hardcore with a large dose of noise rock. Imagine Helmet angrily playing some late 80's Dischord Records style rock and roll. Catch the full experience by digging into their debut full-length All Night Blood on Protagonist Music. For more on the band and a lot about basketball and the Phoenix Suns, check out Punks And Dunks: Doing It In The Desert featuring guitarist Corey Rial.

GRAVE RISK

What Is It? Heavy hardcore/crossover out of Melbourne, Australia. Their debut EP brings genre headliners Terror, Mindforce, and Drain to mind. They deftly transition between several subgenres, but spend most of their playing time somewhere between thrash and beatdown. That's a good place to be.

LEGIONS OF DOOM

What Is It? A doom-metal supergroup born out of the demise of The Skull. Their debut LP The Skull 3 is an intentional continuation of their legacy and incorporates some of the final recordings of the legendary Eric Wagner (The Skull, ex-Trouble). The crew includes current and ex-members of Saint Vitus, Pentagram, Corrosion Of Conformity, Lie Heavy, Blood Of The Sun, and more.

MISSOURI EXECUTIVE ORDER 44

What Is It? Just your usual quartet of masked Mormons blasting through their brand of "Great Plains Hardcore." Salt Sermon is a scathing eleven-song LP co-released by Learning Curve Records and The Ghost Is Clear Records. The band has been tearing it up through the Midwest in their trademark white shirts and bike helmets. Members Jerom Johnson and Elos Olsen appeared on episode 416 of Getting It Out Podcast to discuss it all.

SPIRIT MOTHER

What Is It? Haunting heavy rock originally formed in Long Beach, CA, but now with members throughout the US. Trails is their Heavy Psych Sounds Records debut album and it's a grungey trip of fuzzed-out riffs comparable to acts like Helms Alee, Young Widows, and Spotlights. No doubt they'll be on the bill of many psych rock fests in the near future.

SUBURBAN EYES

What Is It? Another supergroup, this time of the emo variety, features Eric Richter (Christie Front Drive, Antarctica), Jeremy Gomez (Mineral, The Gloria Record), and John Anderson (Boys Life). In August, they released an excellent nine-song self-titled debut album courtesy of Spartan Records. The dynamic record finds the seasoned vets dishing out sometimes ethereal, but always catchy soundscapes that hit the mark if you're in the mood for a pleasant listen.

TRACHEOTOMY

What Is It? Floridian deathcore with a new EP out on 1126 Records titled Fixated Propensity For Destruction. The band smartly enlisted Bodysnatcher's Chris Whited to handle production duties and will pair up with his band for a December run of tour dates. Their sound is unapologetically heavy and littered with the ridiculous breakdowns you might expect.

TRENCH

What Is It? Maybe it's easiest to call it metalcore, but to be fair, there is so much more to their sound. The Calgary-based juggernaut has been on a rampage supporting their latest full-length Between Inverted Worlds (New Damage Records), including several tours alongside Misery Signals. On the new record, they've heavily incorporated electronic and industrial elements to rise above their peers as a band truly doing their own thing. Brothers Tommy and Tony Chan discussed all that and more on episode 421 of Getting It Out Podcast. Check it out HERE if you missed it.

YOSEMITE IN BLACK

What Is It? Bombastic metallic hardcore from Atlanta with a moniker that doesn't, but that's okay. There is a prevalent deathcore element to the tunes on their recently released Terminus Hate City debut The Pursuit Of as well. However, the band's brightest quality is their charismatic approach to the whole package of simply being in a band. Enthusiasm can be magical that way.
